What a solar system diagram shows
A solar system diagram shows the Sun at the center and the planets that orbit it, arranged in order of their distance from the Sun. Our solar system has eight planets. In order from the Sun they are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Between Mars and Jupiter sits the asteroid belt, a ring of rocky debris that separates the small rocky worlds from the giants. A good diagram lays these out clearly, with each planet labeled, so students can read the sequence at a glance. A diagram generator turns a short description into a clean, labeled image so you can skip the drawing and go straight to teaching.
The eight planets in order from the Sun
Inner planets vs outer planets
The eight planets split into two families with the asteroid belt as the dividing line. The four inner planets, Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars, are the terrestrial planets. They are small, rocky, and dense, and they orbit close to the Sun. The four outer planets, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, are the giant planets. Jupiter and Saturn are gas giants made mostly of hydrogen and helium, while Uranus and Neptune are ice giants that hold more water, ammonia, and methane. The outer planets are far larger, orbit much farther out, and all four carry ring systems, though only the rings of Saturn are prominent enough to see easily. Showing the two groups side by side helps students understand why the planets differ so much depending on their distance from the Sun.
