What are the parts of a plant?
The parts of a plant are the main structures that let it grow, feed itself, and reproduce. Most flowering plants share six basic parts: roots, stem, leaves, flower, fruit, and seeds. The roots anchor the plant and draw up water and minerals, the stem holds the plant upright and carries water and food, the leaves capture sunlight to make food, and the flower contains the parts the plant uses to reproduce. After a flower is pollinated it can form a fruit that holds the seeds, and each seed can grow into a new plant. A parts of a plant diagram shows these structures as a labeled drawing of a whole plant, so students can see how each part connects. This generator turns a short description into a clean, labeled diagram so you can skip the drawing and go straight to teaching. Note that the parts of a plant cell, such as the cell wall and chloroplasts, are a different topic covered by the plant cell diagram generator.
The 6 parts of a plant and their functions
Inside the flower: petal, sepal, stamen, and pistil
When a lesson moves from the whole plant to the flower itself, a few more parts come into focus. The petals are the colorful parts that attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. The sepals are the small leaf-like parts at the base of the flower that protect the bud before it opens. The stamen is the male part and is made of an anther that produces pollen and a slender filament that holds it up. The pistil is the female part and is made of the stigma, style, and ovary, where seeds form after pollination. Showing a whole-plant diagram next to a flower close-up helps students see how the small flower parts fit into the larger plant and why the flower matters for making new seeds.
