What is a fact family?
A fact family is a group of related number sentences that use the same set of numbers. For addition and subtraction, three numbers such as 2, 3, and 5 produce four facts: 2+3=5, 3+2=5, 5-2=3, and 5-3=2. For multiplication and division, three numbers such as 3, 4, and 12 produce 3x4=12, 4x3=12, 12 divided by 3=4, and 12 divided by 4=3. Fact families help students see how operations are connected and how addition undoes subtraction and multiplication undoes division. A fact family generator turns any set of three numbers into a clean, printable triangle, house, or worksheet in seconds.
How to make a fact family with Figviz
Triangle vs house format
The two most common fact family formats are the triangle and the house, and both show the same relationships in a slightly different way. In a triangle, the whole (the sum or the product) sits at the top corner and the two parts (the addends or the factors) sit in the bottom corners. Students slide their finger along the sides to read each related fact. In a house, all three numbers go on the roof and the four related number sentences are written inside, like family members living together. Younger students often find the house more friendly and concrete, while the triangle makes the part-whole relationship easier to see. Figviz can generate either format, so you can match the one your curriculum uses.

Can I get a blank fact family template?
Yes. To generate a blank fact family template, describe the structure you want, for example "a blank fact family triangle with empty corners and ruled lines for the number sentences." Figviz will draw the triangle or house with empty number spaces and blank lines that students fill in by hand after printing, or annotate digitally in any PDF editor. Blank templates are ideal for guided practice, math centers, and timed drills, and you can print several copies so every student gets one.
