About this 3D plant cell model

This interactive model focuses on the structures that make plant cells distinct: a rigid wall, chloroplasts, and a large central vacuole. Use the model for spatial exploration, then compare it with the reference views generated from the plant cell diagram assets. Need a printable image instead? Generate a plant cell diagram or compare it with an animal cell model.

Structures in this model

Cell wall
A rigid cellulose layer that supports and protects the cell, giving plant cells their angular shape.
Cell membrane
A selective barrier just inside the wall that controls what enters and leaves the cytoplasm.
Central vacuole
A large fluid-filled compartment that stores water and maintains turgor pressure.
Chloroplasts
Photosynthetic organelles containing chlorophyll and stacked thylakoids that capture light energy.
Nucleus
The control center containing DNA and a nucleolus for ribosome assembly.
Mitochondria
Organelles that convert stored chemical energy into ATP for cellular work.
Endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus
Membrane systems that fold, modify, sort, and package proteins and lipids.

FAQ

What makes a plant cell different from an animal cell?

Plant cells have a rigid cell wall, chloroplasts for photosynthesis, and a large central vacuole. Animal cells do not have a cell wall or chloroplasts and usually have smaller vacuoles.

How do I use the 3D plant cell model?

Drag to rotate the cell, scroll or pinch to zoom, and use Reset view to recenter the model. The reference images below the viewer show matching cutaway, top, and bottom views.

Can I use the reference images for teaching?

Yes. The images are optimized for web display and are useful for introducing plant-cell structure before moving to the interactive model.
